mindfulness based stress reduction
The foundation of this work is an eight week training in mindfulness that allows participants to cultivate a relaxed state of awareness in the present moment - a state that is essential for being effective and responsive, and reducing burnout in high stress environments. Skill with mindfulness is scientifically correlated with increased distress tolerance, increased empathic capability, and cognitive flexibility. When these traits are embodied, high job performance follows. With greater internal awareness, we are better prepared for effective social engagement.

Individuals and teams having the greatest ability to reach organizational goals exhibit high social-emotional intelligence. They utilize high level communication skills that are authentic, transparent, and congruent. In a culture where this kind of communication takes place, people can bring themselves to work more fully. The skills involved with connecting deeply to others around a common purpose, working honestly with differences, and developing collaborative solutions are enhanced through the shared inquiry of mindful dialogue. Through this process, an organizational culture develops where people feel invigorated and nourished by the collective challenges of work.
Executive Growth
Healthy work environments are created and sustained by quality leadership. Leaders who are able to foster a sense of calm, appreciation, and inspiration in work teams also create increased productivity, innovation, and ability to meet challenges. They are able to transform emotional tension, which can be a barrier to high performance, into creative tension, which increases motivation. Individual coaching continues to draw upon the knowledge and practices of interpersonal neurobiology and social intelligence to build upon inherent strengths and further develop qualities intrinsic to authentic leadership.
Families
I have been facilitating change within families for nearly two decades. Parents can feel frustrated and overwhelmed in dealing with the tumultuous time of a son’s or daughter's adolescence. Despite attempts to improve the situation, parents often feel powerless as youth continue to "up the ante" with ever more concerning behaviors such as verbal abuse, defiance, substance abuse, or failing grades. Profound transitions in the form of parents’ separation or divorce and illness or death can be painful and difficult, and create overwhelming or destabilizing stress.
My approach to working with such situations is to involve the entire family to find the leverage for change and where balance can be found. This is a strategic-systemic process utilizing mindfulness and respect, which results in:
•Open and effective communication
•Strong yet appropriately flexible boundaries
•Meaningful and safe differentiation for youth
•Establishing legitimate parental hierarchy
•Rediscovering fun
•Remembering love in the face of conflict
